My biggest pet peeve is when a Vet recommends a dog food that just isn't up to par. Granted they have a wealth of knowledge, but do they study dog food? Maybe some do, but when I hear my Vet say Purina Pro Plan or Royal Canin, I about cringe. It has a Mid-higher end price tag and not one 5 star rating to back up why someone would recommend it. Also when looking at the top dog foods on Dog Food Advisor, I see plenty of dog foods that have 4 star ratings (or less) listed, knowing that there are dog foods out there that carry a lot of 5 star ratings. Not saying Dog Food Advisor is a bad place to look, you just have to dig a little deeper doing independent searches, not just their "top" dog foods. In fact I believe Dog Food Advisor is the very best place to start researching something that catches your eye, not the reviews off of Chewy or Amazon. Plus they offer notifications on recalls. Still my favorite food, only con is it's a little pricey, but out of 12 different choices, ALL ARE 5 STAR. Sport Dog Food, you have my vote! That tells me a lot about the company. They look at trying to make each formula the best possible not just a few. Also another thing I like, not one ingredient is RED, which means no controversial ingredients are in there either. When you scroll down to the ingredients on the others you will note some RED ingredients like tomato pomace, beet pulp, sodium selenite, by-products, etc. https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/sport-dog-food-active-series/ Purina: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/purina-pro-plan-dog-food-dry/ Royal-Canin: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/royal-canin-breed-health-nutrition-canned-dog-food/
